RV Guide to Budget Travel
Many are often intimidated when it comes to RV travel. For them it means nothing but luxury self drive motorhomes. However do you know that RV-ing comes with so many opportunities that will allow you to save while on the road. Contrary to what other people think, RVing is actually a fun and affordable way to travel. If you can’t afford buying a motorhome, your perfect choice is renting one. In fact renting an RV is way cheaper than traveling through plane. You don’t need the ultra fancy hotels and rental cars, your motorhome can give you that instant accommodation all in one quality vehicle. It’s very convenient. In addition, let me give you a few tips about how you can save with your rented motorhome.
1. Prior to the trip, Estimate your over-all travel expenses and stick to your budget. You may include fuel cost, insurance, grocery budget, parking fees, pocket-money and other miscellaneous expenses. Always include an emergency fund in your budget, don’t touch this budget unless you really need it. You can use this for off your budget expenses or in case of emergency situation.
2. Consider the time of the year when traveling. If you can avoid the perks of high peak season the better. Off peak season will usually offer lower rates and discounts on numerous travel location, sans the high volume of crowd.
3. Cook your own meals. As much as possible limit your fast food take outs. Take advantage of your fully equipped RV kitchen. Plan ahead, prepare a home made meal or try a new recipe. Be creative! The best part of RVing is indulging yourself to sumptuous meal experience. So, set aside Chinese take outs for now.
4. Stock groceries in your RV. Do your groceries beforehand and make sure to include something for snacks and refreshments. This is to avoid buying from convenient stores which usually cost 2x higher than the regular price.
5. Look for an RV Campground that offers wide variety of free amenities that you can enjoy while in the site. Prior to the trip research and read reviews about certain RV Parks. Try to book early. Most campgrounds offers special discounts for early reservations. Identify what camping options suit you, full hook ups or limited.
6. If you’re staying in one place for a night you may want to try blacktop boondocking instead. Look for a boondocking spot like Wal-Mart’s parking lot. Boondocking may save your expenses for the day, however always observe proper boondocking etiquette.
7. Park near the place of your interest. If you’re an outdoor enthusiast, you may opt to park in a National Park, Mountain resort or a campground near a scenic spot. For those who would love to spend some alone time. Consider a quiet location away from the metropolis area.
8. Save on Fuel. Bring only those things that you’ll need and leave behind things that you won’t need at all. Packed light during travel gives your vehicle a better fuel mileage. Stay longer in one place before heading to the next. Less travel will obviously save on fuel.
Saving while on the road is not that problem. It’s a matter of responsibility and sticking to your budget. Know what you want and what you don’t.
